- Jerzy Skolimowski. Painting, publication issued on the occasion of the awarding of the artist with the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz, III 2015, Lodz, p. 75, il color.
Jerzy Skolimowski is best known as a successful film director, screenwriter and producer. For many years, painting has also been an important part of his work. The artist greatly values this part of his own creative activity, seeing in it the possibility of spontaneous expression of artistic freedom. As he says himself: in painting I am allowed everything.
The history of his relationship with the visual arts, Skolimowski recalls as follows: I have been drawing since childhood, I started using paints as a teenager. But the turning point was a spontaneous decision to paint a large format. In 1997, Agony was created, measuring 252 x 126 centimeters, then for several years I painted the same format of dicta, until I switched to canvas, gradually increasing the size until it was almost the size of a movie screen: 3 meters by 5 meters.
Skolimowski's paintings are saturated with intense emotions and the power of the painterly gesture. In the painting on display, the artist juxtaposes the intensity of the red of the background with the white of the wings.
