Jerzy Potrzebowski was born in 1921 in Sandomierz and died in 1974 in Kraków. During World War II, he was active in the underground; in 1943 he was taken to Auschwitz and sentenced to execution, but avoided death.
From 1945 to 1950 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow in the studios of Zygmunt Radnicki, Ignacy Pienkowski, Czesław Rzepiński and Fryderyk Pautsch. After his studies, he became forever associated with Krakow, living in Salvatore. In 1956, he became a member of the nationwide "Zachęta" group.
