The image of a businesswoman - an active, resourceful individual who conducts extensive business - in the artist's interpretation has gained an unusual appearance. Dudogracz's "woman of success" is far from the Western model promoted in the media. She is a bulky lady, dressed in jewelry and voluminous robes, accompanied by a faithful pet - a small dog. The representational nature of the figure's depiction, her clothing and studied pose, indicate a clear inspiration from old European painting - on the one hand, the courtly Baroque under the sign of Velazquez, on the other - the grotesque realism of Sarmatian conterfects from the 17th and 18th centuries. The painter's predilection for traditional stylization had its sources in his youthful experience of art: there were albums and reproductions of paintings in the family home, the first and most important Master, Professor Edward Mesjasz, who made me passionate about Polish art and, finally, daily contact with Baroque coffin, historical and religious paintings in Jasna Góra and Częstochowa churches (quoted in Jerzy Duda Gracz, Zapiski o życiu i sztuce przemijania [in:] Duda Gracz. Provincial and Municipal Images. Polish Borderlands 2000, Silesian Library Publishing House, p. 6). The creator's peculiar game with the viewer consisted not only in the use of a historicizing scheme and a mocking title, but also in the thoughtful selection of colors and attributes with well-known symbolism. The intense red of the heroine's dress signifies power and might, while the magnificent pearl necklace signifies sublimity and wealth. The presence of a docile miniature dog, held on a leash, only confirms the power and dominance of its owner. The humorous depiction of the native businesswoman is exceptionally successful, but also - not the only travesty of the modern portrait in the artist's work. In addition to similar realizations of the same theme (cf. Image 2015. Lagow - Businesswomen, 1996), there were several analogous likenesses of authentic figures, including writer and music critic Jerzy Waldorff (Image 144. Portrait of Critic J. Waldorff, 1973) or cartoonist Szymon Kobylinski (Image 607. Portrait of Szymon Kobylinski, 1982). These paintings, firmly rooted in the author's contemporary times, but - created in harmony with what is his own, in awe and in humility towards tradition - constitute the phenomenon of this painting.

Jerzy Duda Gracz (Częstochowa 1941 - Łagów 2004)- painter, illustrator, stage designer, educator. His paintings are characterized by technical virtuosity and attention to detail. He practiced art in the broadly defined realist convention with dominant figure deformation and grotesque.
