Modzelewski graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in 1980 with a degree in painting (diploma in the studio of Stefan Gierowski). He currently runs a painting studio at his alma mater. He was a co-founder of Gruppa, with which he exhibited in 1983-92 (he was also co-publisher of the group's magazine "Oj dobrze już"). During this period the artist's paintings also reflect the events that Poland was living through. His works are in the collections of, among others: National Museums in Warsaw, Krakow and Poznan, Zachęta National Art Gallery, Art Museum in Lodz and in private collections in Poland and abroad.
