Janusz Lewandowski is a master of composing a dynamic figurative scene with a calm, familiar landscape. In his paintings, the artist often depicts a subdued rural landscape, which serves as a backdrop for the complex and emotional image of the figures. In the case of the work presented in the catalog of the 18th Contemporary Classics Auction, Lewandowski drew on a theme from Roman mythology and painted Diana - the goddess of hunting and nature. The image, however, differs from the classical, static depictions of the mythical goddess, who mostly holds a bow and tries on the hunt. "Diana" by Janusz Lewandowski is an image of a woman in the ecstasy of the hunt, who has abandoned her divine superiority in favor of a primal association with nature so close to her.
The work is from a private collection, sold in a gold frame as pictured.
