pastel, oil, velvet, size 12 x 21 cm, signed p. d. "Janusz Bersz"
Janusz Bersz (1925 - 1985) is a multi-talented painter, draughtsman, printmaker and ceramicist associated with Poznan throughout his artistic life. His works from various stages of his career, ranging from abstract, organic compositions to monotypes and oil paintings of a mysterious, symbolic and unreal world are constantly present on the art market. He experimented with many techniques, and the landscape on display from the 1980s is one of a series of miniatures in which the artist used scraps of velour as a base for pastel and oil compositions, achieving an unprecedented "fleshy" effect for this semi-abstract, yet legible landscape composition.
