Helena Zaremba-Cybis (Rowne 22 II 1911 - Warsaw 20 X 1986) studied painting in the studio of Prof. Karol Tiche at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw from 1931-1935. From 1936 to 1938 she was a drawing teacher at the Municipal School of Arts and Crafts in Lodz. She had her first individual exhibition at the Institute of Art Propaganda in Lodz in 1937, and also participated in the Winter Salon in 1938. During the summer vacation of 1937 in Krzemieniec (she was the daughter of the director of the Krzemieniec High School), she met Jan Cybis, who was there on an open-air trip, and with whom she became involved during World War II. From 1946 she worked as a teacher at the Painting Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (she retired in 1975). In 1947 she was on a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture and Art in Paris. She painted landscapes, still lifes and genre scenes in the type of colorism characteristic of the Capist grouping. She was eager to create in watercolor and gouache techniques. She has exhibited extensively at home and abroad, often winning awards, including at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts, Radom 1948 (honorable mention), the Maritime Exhibition, Warsaw 1958 (first prize), the Painting Exhibition of the series "Polish Plastic Work in the 15th Anniversary of the Polish People's Republic", Warsaw 1961 (third prize), the Festival of Polish Contemporary Painting, Szczecin 1962 (honorable mention). She also presented many solo exhibitions and participated in many group shows at home and abroad. Her work is represented in the most important collections of Polish contemporary art in museums and public and private collections.
