GIZELA KLIMASZEWSKA (HUFNAGEL ARCTOWA)
1903 Warsaw - 1997 Warsaw
She came from a wealthy family of assimilated Jews. She studied with Tadeusz Pruszkowski. In 1929, together with two friends, Mary Littauer and Elzbieta Hirberzhanka, she founded the Color group. The artists rented a shared studio and organized exhibitions. They mainly focused in their works, on colors and their influence on the compositions. They painted mainly landscapes - very often of Kazimierz Dolny nad Wisłą and its surroundings. In 1933, the last show of the group took place. It was then that Hufnagel took part in the exhibition "Ars Feminae" in Warsaw's Zachęta Gallery. The painter hid during World War II under the name Klimaszewska, which she later began to use. After the war, she continued to create atmospheric landscapes, as well as still lifes. She was the wife of painter Eugeniusz Arct.
