Spiro is a French phenomenon - for it is hard to believe that an artist so artistically mature and uncompromising never took painting lessons. Georges Spiro was self-taught, but this did not prevent him from becoming one of the best painters of Surrealism in the world. A strong influence of Salvador Dali's style is noticeable in his works, particularly evident in his mannerist human proportions and hybrid figures. In addition to his characteristic gardens imbued with an atmosphere of the uncanny, Spiro also created paintings inspired by the cosmos and extraterrestrial civilizations.
