From 1902 to 1907 he studied at the Berlin Academy of Fine Arts. He was an accomplished painter and engraver. His works were exhibited at the Grosse Berliner Kunstausstellung in 1914 and, after World War I, at the Internationale Ausstellung für Buchgewerbe und Graphik in 1924. In 1910 he made a portfolio of etchings to commemorate the centenary of the publication of Goethe's Das Karlsbader Tagebuch.
