The above painting was obtained by the present owners directly from Ewald Gawlik.

Born in Szopienice, he was a mining carpenter and painter. Before the war he studied drawing with Pawel Steller and painting and drawing at Czeslaw Rzepinski's private school. He was a member of the circle of amateur artists at the ZDK of the "Wieczorek" mine. The subjects of his works are mining settlements, genre scenes against the background of the Silesian landscape, still lifes. The artist's works are characterized by a very good mastery of the painting technique.
