Painter, performer, activist, altruist and nature lover. She was born in 1960 in Walbrzych. She is a graduate of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, where she graduated under Prof. Konrad Jarodzki. In 1982 she co-founded the Luxus group - one of the most important art formations of the 1980s, with which she is still active today. In 1997 she founded the Volans association supporting young artists. For the past 15 years, she has spent a significant part of the year on the Vistula River, sailing the wooden traditional boat Solny. In 2015 she created the Flow/Flow project, one of whose goals is to use the tools of art to preserve the river in its natural state. Cyclical and existing outside the official circuit, the mobile boat residency project brings together artists, musicians, performers, curators and other activists. Its results have been shown in exhibitions at Hamburger Bahnhof (2018) and Alter Hafen (2017) in Berlin, Gdansk City Gallery (2016, 2018), Austrian Cultural Center (2019) and Pamoja Together Foundation in Krakow(2017, 2018).
Ciepielewska has also shown her work in solo and group exhibitions, including at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, the Zachęta National Gallery of Art, the Center for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw, Strykejernet in Oslo, and John Hausard Gallery in Southampton. Her works are in private and public collections including: Museum Jerke in Recklinghausen, the Contemporary Museum in Wroclaw and the National Museum in Warsaw, Wroclaw and Krakow. She is the winner of the Katarzyna Kobro Award for 2019.
In addition to painting, in art she is interested in social and communal situations and the search for non-institutional forms of being together in the face of social and environmental crises. In 2020, Ewa Ciepielewska's activities were awarded the Order of the River Vistula by the rafting community. She is an active member of the Save the Rivers Coalition.
