Lot description Show orginal version
Oil painting on canvas, 70 x 50 cm

Damian Wojnowski's paintings are magical and often surprising journeys between worlds, where, as in an alchemist's workshop, a pinch of fantasy and dreams mingle with the not always idyllic reality. As the artist himself emphasizes his works are an attempt to capture the mood of the moment, stopping time for a moment and giving ordinary activities and things an element of magic.

Drawing us into his vision of the world, Wojnowski treats us to subtle humor, often lined with reflection and reverie. There is in these colorful works a visible observation of the nature of man, his relationships, character, thoughts and also his state of mind. This is how the painting of this artist can be described in a few sentences.

It makes us realize how little we know about the world around us. How many riddles it hides and which of the worlds is the right one, and which is an alternative solution.

Wojnowski captures our attention as an author, creating an imaginary world of his sensations and emotions. Once he transports us to a fairy-tale, gentle reality, as when in one painting we watch a seated little boy looking into the distance. This , "Little Prince," perhaps dreams of finding a special being who could become his friend and make his life meaningful?
At other times, he takes the audience into a surreal space, where, unfortunately, machines that transport people back in time, fortune tellers, playing cards and glass balls rule. As the artist himself says: interpretation is always on the side of the viewer

Born in Częstochowa, the artist has lived and worked in Gliwice for more than 28 years.

Trained as a musician and occupational therapist. For years he has been consumed by his passion for painting and love of drawing. On a daily basis, he conducts classes with the elderly as well as the intellectually and mentally disabled, which consist of art therapy. Through sculpture, painting, music or singing, therapy participants open access to their inner self: emotions, needs and fears. In addition, she conducts creativity workshops for both children , adolescents and adults releasing their creativity and awakening their passion to create.
