Painter, printmaker and educator. He graduated from the Classical Gymnasium in Vilnius in 1907.
At the same time he attended the Vilnius Drawing School. In 1928, he took up
studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Stefan Batory University in Vilnius,
completed with a diploma in 1934.While still a student, he became an assistant to
Professor Ferdynand Ruszczyc in the Department of Landscape Painting, and in 1937.
1937, after the death of his master, he takes over its leadership.
In 1945, he arrived in Toruń and actively participated in the organization of the Faculty of Fine Arts
Fine Arts in the just-established, M. Copernicus University. He was appointed to the
the position of professor; he was, among other things, dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and
head of the Department of Landscape Painting, and later of the Department of Landscape and
Still Life.
He painted mainly landscapes, views of Vilnius and Toruń, as well as flowers and still lifes.
He created atmospheric, charming compositions using various painting techniques,
mainly tempera, gouache and watercolor - less frequently oil technique. He was an excellent
printmaker; he created mainly in metal-etched techniques, achieving
painterly effects.
He presented his works - often awarded - at numerous exhibitions
group and individual exhibitions, both at home and abroad, including in Vilnius,
Warsaw, Paris, Brussels, The Hague, Amsterdam, Bucharest, Copenhagen,
Gdansk, Moscow, Riga, Berlin and Munich.
