Bogdan Cierpisz was born on 26.08.1930 in Pulawy. His father Stanislaw was a professional sergeant/corporal in the Polish Army, where he served as a feldsher. His mother Anna (née Bonczyk) worked as an epidemiological disease intelligence officer at the Municipal Health Department in Gdansk. From 1949 until the end of his life he was a resident of Gdansk. In the 1950′s he studied at the State Higher School of Fine Arts first in Sopot then in Gdansk at the Faculty of Painting in the studios of: Jan Cybis, Stanisław Borysowski, Jan Wodyński, Jacek Żuławski. As a student he took part in the restoration of tenements in the Old Town of Gdansk, among other things, using the sgraffito method.
He was a teacher of art education at the Teacher's College (SN) in Gdansk (1957-1970), later a senior assistant at the Department of Elementary Education. In 1973 he was transferred from the SN to the Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology (senior lecturer). From 1974 until (?) he was head of the Department of Early Teaching, first at the Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology, then at the Institute of Pedagogy, Faculty of Humanities, University of Gdansk. A respected academic teacher at the Faculty of Pedagogy at the University of Gdansk. Author of numerous national and international exhibitions.
