Arika Madeyska studied at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Sopot under Artur Nacht-Samborski and Jacek Żuławski, receiving her diploma in 1951. She then moved to Warsaw. She took part in the National Exhibition of Young Visual Arts at the Warsaw Arsenal in 1955 (as Jadwiga Madeyska-Wojciechowska), winning an award at the exhibition. In 1956 she left for France. Initially, she maintained close contact with the country, participating in group exhibitions, such as the Festivals of Visual Arts in Sopot (1955, 1957, 1958, 1970) and in exhibitions of Polish art abroad (Geneva 1959, Paris 1959). In the 1960s, she became associated with the marine painters' movement, participating in several group exhibitions devoted to the subject. She also held solo exhibitions in the country, including at the Salon of "New Culture" (1959), the Krzywe Koło Gallery (1960), the Kordegarda Gallery (1962). At the same time, from the early 1960s, she exhibited more and more intensively in France. At first she painted cityscapes and seaside views, maintained in muted, usually dark tones. The next stage of her creative path was abstraction with an individual expression and repertoire of forms, based on arrangements of arcs and circles. In parallel, from the beginning she created drawings and collages, in which she used materials such as lace, haberdashery, sequins, etc. She also works in textiles and art conservation. Her work was recalled in Poland at the "We are" exhibition in 1991, after which she renewed contacts with the country, holding several solo exhibitions here.
