Andrzej Nowacki was born in 1953 in Rabka. He spent his early youth in Cracow. In 1977 he left Poland and studied Scandinavian studies at the University of Gothenburg and German and art history at the University of Innsbruck.
In the early 1980s he met Kajetan Sosnowski and Henryk Stażewski. Especially the work of Stażewski, with whom he kept in touch for many years, had a significant influence on Nowacki's later works.
He lives and works in Berlin.
