80.0 x 60.0cm - relief, mixed technique, plate on the reverse a sticker: ANDRZEJ GIERAGA | "PAINTING XLIX" | TECH. MIXED | DIMENSION. 80 x 60 CM | 1979
Andrzej Gieraga most readily creates abstract paintings-reliefs, and this has distinguished his art for years. The artist gained recognition for his black and white reliefs, with unobvious and disturbing forms. Over time, color appeared in his art, treated with great subtlety. In recent years, colors have gained in importance and strength; usually bleached, they now captivate with softness and delicacy (B. Deptuła).
♣ to the auctioned price, in addition to other costs, will be added a fee based on the right of the artist and his heirs to receive remuneration in accordance with the Law of February 4, 1994 - on Copyright and Related Rights (droit de suite)
Andrzej Gieraga (born Śliwnik 1934) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz; he received his diploma with honors in 1971. Since 1977 he has been a teacher at the academy, and since 1990 a professor. Gieraga's work is divided into two periods, with a caesura around 1990. In the first, he achieved a recognizable style. Reduced to black and white, the color scheme was complemented by the contrast of textures (matte, glossy) used. A feature of Gieraga's second period is a return to color and abandonment of forms with organic shapes.
