She studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow and Warsaw. In 1958, she received her diploma from Prof. K. Tomorowicz. In 1957 she went with other students of the Academy of Fine Arts on a trip to Italy and France. In 1963, she participated in the founding of the Warsaw art group "Rekonesans". In 1972 she qualified for a ministerial scholarship to Paris. In 1987 she was awarded by the Minister of Culture and Art for lifetime achievement. Later awarded: the Cyprian Kamil Norwid Award, the Jan Cybis Award (2003). She has participated in many painting exhibitions, including 35 solo exhibitions. In her work, Aleksandra Jachtoma seeks the deepest essence of light and color. Her painting is characterized by discipline and asceticism. Compositions consist of condensed homogeneous patches, in which mathematical rigor is softened by delicate color transitions.
