Biography
The artist studied at the Department of Video and Painting at The Art Institute of Chicago (1994-96) and the Department of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk (1996-98), where she received her diploma in the painting studio of Prof. Mieczyslaw Olszewski (annex in the multimedia studio of Prof. Witoslaw Czerwonka). She has received scholarships from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague (1988), Centro de Art Communication Visual (Arco) in Lisbon (1998/99), CCA in Kitakyushu (1999/2000) and Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam (2001/02). Her works are in the collections of Centre Pompidou, MoMA The Museum of Modern Art. or Tate. In the last days of December, The New York Times magazine announced its list of people who had the greatest impact on culture in 2016. In this prestigious group - alongside Michelle Obama, Lady Gaga and Donatella Versace, among others - was Paulina Olowska. The New York editorial board called Olowska "the most optimistic yet sentimental Polish artist" who "paints the forgotten past, believes in it and lives it." Olowska's exhibition "Wisteria, Mysteria, Hysteria" was held at Metro Pictures in New York in November and December.
