Nicola De Maria (Foglianise, Dec. 6, 1954) "One who writes poetry with hands full of colors": this is how Nicola De Maria defines himself, an artist exponent of the Italian Transavanguardia who knows how to transform poetry and lyricism into painting. His works do not accept the traditional boundaries of the pictorial canvas, in fact he almost never uses frames for his paintings and sometimes paints the edges and the back. As dimensions, he likes to vary, in fact he has even taken to expanding the painting to the point of transporting it on walls and ceilings, animating them with vital impetus. The artist believes in the "principle of improvisation," preferring to make works without a plan, inventing them in the moment and thus embracing the risks that this may entail.
