The coin is very rare not only because of the vintage itself (minted in good silver, displaced over the years by increasingly inferior monetary issues). Very rare also because of the variety, as confirmed by only one listing of it in our archive (A9/10 sold for 18,975 zlotys).
Olkusz troyak from the most interesting vintage of this mint's activity. A year of changes, perturbations and the death of two of its administrators.
As the author of the monograph of the Olkusz Crown Mint points out, 1580 was a crucial year for its minting, during which there was a gradual formation of the final style of a whole series of coins. This can be perfectly seen precisely on trojaks, where the royal image, the presence of coats of arms, borders or denomination markings change.
The present piece is a type without the coat of arms of the mintmaster (Glaubicz or Jastrzębiec). It falls in the short period of minting after the deaths of two mint administrators, Jakub Rokossowski (July 13) and Piotr Zborowski (September 13).
Variety with a small bust of the king, not inscribed in the border, and the numeral of the denomination III above the Eagle and Pogo.
