Japanese sword signed "Izu Mishima Jyu Yusuishin Sadayoshi, Showa 50 Nen 2 Gatsu Hi".
The real name of the Sadayoshi blacksmith is Enomoto Sadaichi. He was born in Japan in 1909 in Tokushima Prefecture. In 1928, he began taking lessons from Gassan Sadakatsu himself. In 1943, already an independent craftsman, he moved to Mishima in Shizuoka Prefecture. It was in Mishima that the sword offered in this auction was forged. After his work won many competitions, he was awarded the title of Mukansa in 1996. Mukansa is the second highest title a Japanese swordsman can receive, right after the title of National Treasure. This title freely translated means "Not to be judged," as once it is received, the works of this artist cannot participate in competitions. They are considered to have already reached a level beyond all criticism.
