Lot information
A riding helmet of the pappenheim type, made around 1640, used mainly during the Thirty Years' War. The helmet consists of a hemispherical dome formed by several segments connected by ridge bands and riveted together. On the top of the helmet is a decorative attachment with a hole for a crest plate. In the front part, a simply shaped nosepiece is attached with a fastening mechanism using a screw and a wing nut. The neck protector consists of several lamellas connected by riveting, which allow partial movement and better protection of the neck while riding. The helmet lacks the original earmuffs, indicating the armor is incomplete. Inside the helmet is a label marked "VII," probably used for inventory or property marking.
