A Rare Pappenheim Rapier

Wide straight blade of lenticular cross-section, double-edged, central point. In the upper part of both sides narrow cut marked with a wolf of Passau. Simple decoration, traces of corrosion. Characteristic basket with two guard leaves with incised decoration of stars and variously sized wheels. Handle channelled, wrapped with steel coiled wire. Head ovoid, faceted. Germany, Passau, 1st half of the 17th century, length 109 cm. Surface corrosion in places.
