Lot description Show orginal version

A famous Renaissance Shturmak type helmet also known as the Burgundian "burgonet" or "casquetto" helmet from the 2nd half of the 16th century, probably made around 1560-80.

The helmet originated in Italy and was commonly used during the Renaissance throughout Europe as well as in Poland by infantry, cavalry and also in naval service.

In the early days of the famous Polish Hussars, sturmak helmets were also used, such as in 1558 in the rota of Mikołaj Potocki in his personal post. Burgundian helmets also served during the legendary defense of Malta against the Turks in 1565.

The helmet is forged from thick steel plate, a spherical bell, on the axis of which a high crest is visible, the visor with a slight sharpening, the nut is short. On the sides of the cutouts where the original cheek guards were located. Numerous double holes from the sewn-in fascia. Painted decoration of a later date.

Condition as shown in photos.
