The medal - Медаль "За усмирение польского мятежа" - was awarded since 1865. The decoration was established by a decree of Alexander II on January 1, 1865. The light bronze variety was awarded to soldiers from private to general, militia, Cossack regiments and peasants supporting the tsarist army who took part in battles against insurgent troops during the January Uprising of 1863-64. A total of 368,133 pieces were awarded, minted at the St. Petersburg mint.
