Poland Medal (1636/1637) Defeat of the Armies of Turkey Sweden and Russia by Vadislaus IV. Vladislaus IV (1632-48). By Sebastian Dadler. Obverse: King Vladislaus on horseback receives the Russian ambassador and his entourage who kneel on the ground before him. The ranks of the respective armies face each other in the foreground; while an army camp and the city of Smolensk are seen in the background. The inscription around: 'DEI OPT MAX AVSPICIO INVICT VLADISLAI IV POL SVECIAEQ REG ARMIS VICTRIC SMOLENSCVM OBSIDIONE LIBERATVM MOSCI SVBIVGATI SIGNA DVCES PROSTRATI'. Reverse: Features another elaborate surrender scene; this time with Vladislaus receiving the Swedish and Turkish representatives; who kneel before him holding palms of peace and begging for mercy.
