In Tilsit (now Sovetsk) in East Prussia two separate treaties were signed: between Russia and France and between France and Prussia. This ended to the war of 1806–1807 in which Russia helped Prussia. The Peace of Tilsit was concluded as a result of personal negotiations between the Emperors of Russia Alexander I and France Napoleon I on June 13/25, 1807. The emperors met on a raft placed in the middle of the Nieman River and talked eye to eye in a covered pavilion for about an hour. Russia agreed to the creation of the Grand Duchy of Warsaw and joined the continental blockade of England.
