[WROCŁAW]. Wratislavia. Bresslaw. Copperplate 28.9x36.3 cm.
Timann 24; Lukaszewicz I 11. Okólska 8. Panoramic view of Breslau, identified as M. Merian's 1641 plan. It was first published in J. A. Werdenhagen's De rebus publicis hanseaticis (Frankfurt 1641), then in M. Merian's Neuwe archontologia cosmica (Frankfurt 1649) and in Matthew Merian's Topografia Bohemiae, Moraviae et Silesiae (Frankfurt 1650). Timann states that it was probably made much earlier by an engraver named Wenzel Hollar. Title in the center, on a ribbon under the upper frame. In the upper left corner, the city's coat of arms in a cartouche surrounded by a laurel wreath. In both lower corners an explanation of the more important buildings (38 edifices in all). Good condition.
