The fortress of Sopot, like the fortresses of Alessio, Drivasto (Drisht) and Himara, and above all Shkodra, was captured by the Turks 1479.It became a base for the Ottoman Empire to enable its expansion to threaten the Italian states. For this reason, there were Turkish-Christian battles there.
