Oil pastels, own technique, board, 80 x 80 cm
Born in Krakow in 1982. Graduate of the Cracow University of Technology at the Faculty of Technical Physics, which confirms the complexity of his nature and the need to learn about the world. Fortunately, a strong inner compulsion to express what is hidden deep in his soul and heart brings to light beautiful images. Over the years the artist has developed his own very consistent style and technique, which attracts the attention of the viewer and does not allow you to pass by his works indifferently. In contemporary art, paintings created in oil pastel technique are rare. Wojciech has developed an authorial way of preparing them, so as to obtain a work that is resistant to touch and more durable. For some time, the artist has been using chipboard as a sub-image for his works instead of paper, and the surface of the finished work is properly impregnated and protected. For years, the artist has been following a very conscious creative path that he has set out. It was initiated by silhouettes of strange figures and portraits taken from the imagination. There were also bizarre and twisted animal forms. Then the symbol and simplification of the aforementioned figures. A fantastic and somewhat unreal series of characters called "Blind Men," was the first major curve in the artist's path. Subsequent approaches to the easel have already resulted only in complete compositions, enclosed within the cycle. However, in order to better understand Wojciech Odsterczyl's work, one should remember that it is thoroughly imbued with emotions. Technique is a tool, a medium. The crux is hidden in the artist's perception of reality, human attitudes and behavior, which he encounters every day in life. Creative actions are a reaction to external stimuli and allow the artist to unwind daily terror, shame, frustration. Wojciech Odsterczyl slowly and impatiently wandered through various classical painting techniques, until he finally found the one that is natural and obvious to him: oil pastel. It is with it that he has stayed for good, because it allows him to express what he needs to externalize.
