acrylic, canvas, 60 x 80 cm, signed l.d.: 'Witold.K. 19'
Studied at the Graphic Arts Department of the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. He studied under the tutelage of Eugeniusz Arct, Wojciech Fangor and Henryk Tomaszewski, among others. In 1964 he left for Paris and was not to return to Poland for a long time. In the French capital he met many important people of the art world (including Pablo Picasso, who painted his portrait). Five years later - in 1969 he leaves for the United States where he creates for years. Witold Kaczanowski works in painting (easel and wall painting), sculpture, printmaking and photography. A characteristic element of his work is the depiction of small figures shown in an undefined space, aiming to symbolically show the alienation of people in the modern world (thus referring to the artist's frequent travels and thus a certain loneliness). For a number of years, the artist's works have been presented at numerous exhibitions in Poland and around the world. One of the most important is certainly the retrospective exhibition at the Amsterdam branch of Sotheby's auction house, which took place in 2007.
