Wieslaw Garboliński (Głowno 1927- Lodz 2014) was a painter, draftsman and polychrome designer. From 1948 to 1954 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, then - until 1957 - he studied at the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Leningrad. In the 1970s, he devoted himself to teaching. He was a rector at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Lodz, and also served as president of the Lodz branch of the Association of Polish Artists. He was a co-founder of the Association of Polish Painters and Graphic Artists (vice-president in 1985-89). Most recognizable in the artist's work are "baroque" compositions full of naked bodies, antique statues or figures inspired by the canvases of the old great masters. These surprising combinations bring his work closer to surrealism.
