Tadeusz Lapinski graduated in painting from the studio of Artur Nacht-Samborski and lithography from Jozef Pakulski at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in 1955. After graduation, he traveled to Yugoslavia, visited Germany, Austria, France and Italy as part of an artistic exchange with the Association of Polish Artists. In 1960, the artist sent a set of works to the International Biennial of Prints competition held at the Cincinati Art Museum in the United States and received First Prize. Three years later, as part of the "Artist in Resident" program, Lapinski found himself at the Pratt Graphics Center in New York. In America he met Mark Rothko, from whom he took over the belief that the subconscious has a decisive influence on everything we do. This approach was important for Lapinski's further work. "My art is the art of the subconscious," the artist used to say. In the late 1960s, the artist settled permanently in the United States. In 1972, he took a job at the University of Maryland as a lecturer. In 1983, he received the rank of full professor. In the United States, the artist was represented by such galleries as Kennedy Galleries, Weintraub Gallery and Art Fair Gallery. For more than sixty years, Lapinski's art has evolved within the boundaries of global trends and artistic movements, searching for its own language and expression.
