Original drawing-design illustration for the book "Red shields" by J. Iwaszkiewicz. Signed with monogram p.d.: jms. J.M. Szancer, graphic artist, famous illustrator, stage designer. Author of illustrations for over 200 books, especially from children's literature, including Mr. Kleks Academy, O Janku, co piesom szył buty, Pinokio, Pan kotek był chory, O krasnoludki i sierotka Marysi, Brzechwa dzieciom, Lokomotywa, Rzepka, Ptasie radio, Dziadek do Orzechów, Andersen's Fairy Tales; for adults he illustrated Fairy Tales and Satires by I. Krasicki, Pan Tadeusz by Mickiewicz, Trilogy by Sienkiewicz, Amicis, Carlo Collodi, Cervantes, Hašek, Edith Nesbit, Pushkin, Swift, Twain. He studied at the Krakow Academy with Wł. Jarocki, J. Mehoffer, T. Axentowicz and K. Frycz (1920-26), then under J. Pankiewicz at the Paris branch of the Academy of Fine Arts (1928-29). In the 1930s he exhibited paintings and drawings several times, including at the TPSP in Cracow, Poznan and Belgrade. After the war, he mainly took up book illustration, especially of children's books. From 1951 he was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.
