Stefan Wegner (Sosnowiec 1901 - Lodz 1965) - painter, draughtsman, graphic artist, interior decorator, art theoretician. He studied art from 1922-1927 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow with, among others: W. Jarocki and J. Pankiewicz. In 1930 he settled permanently in Lodz and participated in the establishment of ZPAP. In 1931 he established contacts with Strzeminski, who introduced him to the circle of Polish avant-garde. After the war, he co-organized the Higher School of Visual Arts (now the Wł. Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts) in Lodz, where he served as dean and in 1949-50 as rector. In the initial phase of his work, Wegner used impressionist technique, later he referred to cubism and abstractionism. After 1949 he joined the trend of socialist realism. In the mid-1950s he returned to the post-Cubist formula.
