Stanislaw Mlodożeniec (Warsaw 1953, lives in New York) studied at the Faculty of Painting of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw from 1972 to 1978, graduating in the studio of Prof. Jacek Sienicki. Until 1981, he held three individual exhibitions in Warsaw and Poznań, and took part in several group exhibitions. During martial law, he participated in the movement of independent exhibitions in churches, such as two editions of the exhibition "Testimony of Presence", Warsaw 1982 and 1983. In 1983, he settled permanently in New York. Since then, he has been exhibiting in galleries there and participating in the artistic life of the Polish community. In 1991 he took part in the exhibition "We are" in Warsaw's Zachęta Gallery, presenting the work of Polish artists settled abroad. From the beginning, his paintings were maintained in a neo-expressionist style, which puts him among the precursors of this trend in Poland. In his paintings he freely combines motifs drawn from mass culture and everyday city life, creating a kind of collective psychological portrait of its contemporary inhabitants. In addition to painting, an important strand of his work is drawing, characterized by nervous, hurried hand gestures similar to those in his paintings.
