She participated in the resistance movement during World War II and fought in the Warsaw Uprising. After being arrested, she was imprisoned in Pawiak prison. As a writer, she published numerous memoirs, including "Galopem na przełaj", "Z wiatrem pod wiatr", "Galopem pod wiatr", "Pół wieku wspomnień", "Po rosie, po grudzie", "Moja poezja". In the field of fine arts, she was engaged in painting and printmaking. In 1962, she emigrated from Poland and in the United States completed her studies in Roman studies and art. She returned to the country in 1980. She was the founder of an annual literary prize for memoir writing.
