Maciej Cieśla (born 1988) - graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, at the Faculty of Painting and Sculpture, in the studio of Piotr Blazejewski (diploma in 2013).
After graduation, for a period of two years he searched for technical solutions and tools of artistic expression, thanks to which he could realize his subjects in the best possible way, in an honest and unadulterated manner. He also worked to identify and justify thematic foundations.
The subject matter of his works evolved along with his technical explorations until he was able to crystallize private, distinctive themes and characters created in his spiritual world. He interweaves an ironic approach to evil with a woman distanced from the male ego, mythological symbols and folklore. He intertwines witchcraft, demons, who themselves succumb to temptations, charms of women, and their "evil" when juxtaposed with the real world is naive, harmless, human. His inspiration also comes from nature, light and the form of nature.
For about two years now, he has been using a technique that is the result of exploring and working on his painting. It stems from his interpretations of Post-Impressionism, Neo-Fauvism, abstraction in geometric form and symbolism. From these interpretations he builds his own unique style.
He also paints under the pseudonym Polski Thomas, under which he addresses the theme of the plane in painting, as well as matter, the micro-world and abstract subjects.
