Biography
Painter, draughtsman, stage designer. Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz under the direction of Władysław Strzemiński. He stayed on scholarship in Paris in 1948-49, where he attended the Académie Moderne Fernand Léger. He was a co-founder of the ST-53 GROUP, and in the 1950s painted dynamic paintings with geometrically simplified human and animal figures. In the late 1950s, he began to be fascinated by the matter and texture of a painting. Around 1970, his "structural (biological) painting transformed into constructivist (geometric) painting. He was a participant in the KOSZALIŃ PLENER in Osieki (1964), BIENNALE OF SPACE FORMS in Elblag (1965). He was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta (1964) and the Prize of the Minister of Culture and Art for his pedagogical activity (1967). He studied art from 1945 to 1951 at the State Higher School of Visual Arts in Lodz under the direction of W. Strzemiński. He honed his painting skills in France in the period 1948-1949 in the studio of F. Léger. After receiving his diploma, he taught at his alma mater. He belonged to the group of creators of the St-53 group. He participated in the National Exhibition of Young Visual Arts "Against War, Against Fascism" in the Warsaw Arsenal in 1955 and the Second Exhibition of Modern Art in Warsaw in 1957. He practiced painting and drawing techniques, engaged in stage design, created spatial forms.
