Biography
Creator of installations and performances. One of the most internationally known Polish semi-contemporary artists. Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Since 1977 taught at several art schools in the USA (Boston, New York). He has made more than 60 public projections (projecting images onto architectural objects, accompanied by various additional effects) with social content, maintained in an accusatory-interventionist tone. He is the author of numerous multimedia works relating to social issues such as homelessness, emigration. In projections in public space, he addresses the most painful problems of a given community. He creates works based on the close interaction of three elements, adapting the image and the content of the message to the place of its presentation (building, monument). He also creates a variety of "utopian" vehicles, providing shelter for a person (a homeless immigrant). Major projections include: on Nelson's Column in London (1985), on the City Hall tower in Krakow (1996).
