Jolanta Kontek and Janusz Maksymiuk graduated from the State School of Fine Arts (now the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of Art) in Poznan in 1992.
After graduation, their paths diverged, with Janusz returning to the east of Poland to Biala Podlaska, and Jolanta remaining in Poznan, where they pursued independent artistic activities.
Years later, they met again. This unique event happened in 2015 at "Gallery 33" in Ostrow Wielkopolski.
Actually, there was an immediate spark between them artistically. Just a month later, they embarked on an experiment of creating collaborative paintings, the final result of which is the work of a painting and conceptual process carried out at the same time by two people.
The result of the collaboration is mixed technique painting, often with the help of a stencil, decorative, abstract, expressive compositions full of restlessness and dynamics, like two creative personalities clashing and complementing each other.
As they paint, they create a painting spectacle, each time they meet emanating a different energy, color and message which depends on their current mood, season, place of event, contact.
Each of them brings to co-creation their individual artistic and life experiences, way of perceiving the world and passion. For them, creative collaboration is an inspiring journey, a challenge, a question, a poignancy, a search and finding coherence in duality.
In addition to the "Permeation of Worlds" project, both Jolanta Kontek and Janusz Maksymiuk are developing their own individual work.
The distance of more than 500 kilometers separating them is not an obstacle to the project, which they have continued for more than six years. They meet several times a year in their studios and at plein-air painting events in various places in Poland.
