Born October 8, 1955 in Warsaw, lives in Warsaw
Painter, illustrator, prominent representative of Polish figurative painting, educator.
In 1980 he earned a diploma in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under Prof. Stefan Gierowski, where he later ran a studio. He was a co-founder of Gruppa, with which he exhibited for nearly nine years from 1983. He is considered one of the main figures of the "Expression of the 1980s." In 1986-89 he created figurative paintings whose form conformed to the principles of realism. Modzelewski believes that the 1990s were the most important in his work. At that time, together with Marek Sobczyk, he ran a private School of Art in Warsaw. Since 1997, the artist has been using tempera and abandoned the technique of oil painting. He received the "Polityka" Passport for 1998 and is a recipient of the Jan Cybis Award (2004).
