"Three-dimensionality, only seemingly present in the first series of paintings, gained a real presence already in the following series of works. It has also remained, although repeatedly changing its way of manifestation, a characteristic feature of his painting to this day " (quoted by Bozena Kowalska)
Janusz Orbitowski studied from 1961-67 at the Faculty of Painting and Graphics of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, graduating with honors, in the studio of Adam Marczyński. In 1970 he began working at the Academy, which he continued uninterruptedly until 2012. From his early years he practiced geometric art, being one of its most consistent representatives in Poland.
Since 1968, he participated in more than a hundred group exhibitions representing the geometric abstraction trend. He exhibited works, among others, in New York. He has received grants from the Fondatione Romana (1972), the Kosciuszko Foundation (1983), The Pollock-Krasner Foundation (2002), among others. The artist's works are in museum collections and numerous private collections, including: Museum of Art in Lodz, National Museum in Warsaw, Krakow, Gdansk, Wroclaw, Szczecin.
The Geometry Auction catalog presents an early work by the artist, created 2 years after he received his diploma. Certainly noteworthy is the illusion of space and movement and the extremely subtle gradation of colors so characteristic of the artist's work.
