As part of Operation Market Garden (September 17-26, 1944), the British 1st Airborne Division (later supported by the Polish 1st Independent Parachute Brigade) landed near Arnhem in the Netherlands on the Lower Rhine River. The landing was surprised by two Waffen-SS armored divisions resting in the area. As a result of the fighting, the Allies suffered defeat (the British division essentially ceased to exist), and the city was almost completely destroyed.

He grabbed a paintbrush at an early age, when as a minor he watched the painting activities of his father, who painted landscapes in the privacy of his home for many years. And everything pointed to Janusz becoming a painter. Life, however, decided otherwise. He had to drop out of the Academy of Fine Arts, as the mundane of life consumed him. Subsequent businesses, interests, initiatives, although they provided stability in life did not blunt the desires of the painter's artistic soul. He went through a flirtation with photography, film, but still thought about painting. In what Kulikowski paints you can see his adoration for somewhat distant times and places. Light-saturated streets, the Italian countryside, or finally automobiles and aviation.
With the offered painting, the author pays tribute to the great dedication and daring of Polish aviators.
