Jan Wyżykowski

I was born in 1956 in Warsaw and studied painting here, first at the High School of Fine Arts, then at the Academy of Fine Arts: 1981 diploma in painting in the studio of Jan Tarasin. After graduation I took up a job as an art and theater instructor, then I was a school teacher. At that time I was preoccupied with paratheatrical activities, I started writing dramas. Of course, I painted, specifically for 6 years, working every day, I made 2 structuralist studies and as many as two, after which (based on these studies, according to my large color theory) I made synthetic paintings of concavity and convexity, which I presented in 4 important exhibitions for me, thus ending, I think, my youthful period. 1992 individual exhibition at the CCA - Ujazdowski Castle, 1993 group exhibition at the CCA "Documents II", 1994 group exhibition at the CCA in Bucharest, 1994 individual exhibition at the "Studio" gallery of the Polish State Railways. In 1995 - 2003, dissatisfied with the results, because I lacked drawing, I consciously took a long break, slowed down, in addition, I decided, not to make exhibitions. At that time, I mainly dealt with: the theory of the color channel in the retina, the theory of painting, drama writing, a little later I returned to performance. In 2004, I also discovered reflexive perspective (at that time, the barrier of drawing broke), and discovered a very practical, compared to the big one, the so-called broken color model, through which I learned how to act in relation to structure and more. In many endeavors I was helped by a mathematician - the late Cezary Suski. That is, since 2003 I first drew a lot and then painted more and more. Pausing and rethinking helped a lot and in a short time there were a dozen series, some with dozens of paintings each. And above all, in 2010 I once again took up a youthful project (the realization of structures based on a study from the 1980s) - New Structuralism. I consider 2011, the year in which I finished working on the structures, to be a breakthrough year. Gradually I realized a hugely important issue for me, that creativity is not some episodes in time and space, that there is no point in dividing art into parts, there is simply one interpretation - it is the whole life - the Whole. Deliverance, too, is the existence of four recognized main directions in which to act and fulfill themselves, so these are realism, figuration, abstraction and structuralism. 2006 individual at "Milano" gallery, 2010 four performances at "XXI" gallery, 2012 individual at "Fibak Gallery", 2013 collective at "Saatchi" gallery, 2016 I published an experimental novel titled."Bullet", the third part of which is "Compendium of Painting Problems".
