Oil, canvas, 100 x 70 cm, signed and described on the back
The artist painted the paintings "Bathtub" and "Table" at the end of his studies. "In his early works from 2002-2005, Ciężki portrayed objects that evoked the notion of degradation (an urban concrete dumpster, cardboard), or were partially degraded (a bathtub, a cavern, a table, a radiator or rusty letterboxes). These objects, covered with dust, dirt, or rust, discarded and kept in dark tones, resembled a kind of painterly objets trouvés in the spirit of Tadeusz Kantor." (culture.pl portal). Jakub Ciężki studied at the Faculty of Arts of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS) in Lublin from 1998 to 2003, where he currently works as an assistant professor. He earned a diploma with distinction in the painting studio of Prof. Jacek Wojciechowski. A painter, he is fascinated by small-scale architecture and realistic abstractions. He received a scholarship from the Minister of Culture "Young Poland 2013". Winner of the Grand Prix in the Franciszka Eibisch Foundation competition in Warsaw (2004) and the Grand Prix of the 40th Painting Biennale "Bielska Jesień 2011". His works were sold at Sotheby's Auction House in London (November 2014). He works at the Faculty of Arts of the Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin. He is the author of more than a dozen solo exhibitions and participant in dozens of group exhibitions at home and abroad.
