180,0 x 90,0 cm - oil, canvas signed on the reverse on f. g.: IGNACY CZWARTOS | 2010 - 2011 - 2012 - 2013 | [up arrow mark].
The painting exhibited and reproduced:
- Pracownia ul. Legionów Piłsudskiego, catalog of the exhibition by Marek Chlanda, Ignacy Czwartos, Koji Kamoji, Krzysztof Klimek and Piotr Lutyoski, Galeria Sztuki Współczesnej BWA Katowice 17 V 2013 - 16 VI 2013, painting shown in photographs of the studio, p. nlb.
The portrait was commissioned by the current owner after an exhibition of paintings by Ignacy Czwartos at Otwarta Pracownia in Krakow, Poland, in February 2010. At that exhibition, Czwartos became known as an excellent portraitist, as evidenced by portraits of his friends Piotr Lutyski and Adam Rzepecki, as well as self-portraits that later opened an exhibition of Czwartos' paintings at Warsaw's Zachęta Gallery in 2023. The dating of the portrait on the back is illustrative of the creative process: "2010-2011-2012-2013," testifying to the gradual, unhurried "maturation" of the painting, a characteristic of the creative method practiced by the artist. Czwartos creates slowly, without haste, and is also reluctant to part with his works, resulting in the rare appearance of his paintings at auctions. The two works presented at our auction come from a collection carefully selected by the artist's friends, created in the first decade of our century.
