Dobiesław Gała practices the art of tilting doors. It is about suggesting to the viewer that right here, exactly in the place where this artist's work hangs, there is a secret passage to the other side of the world - where the visible forms of the invisible hide and where the shapes of the laws, in accordance with which our reality dances, are revealed - completely invisible from the side of our busy everyday life. (excerpt from the introduction to the catalog: Dobieslaw Gala "Reliefs")
Sculptor, painter and draughtsman. Obtained his diploma at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow
in the atelier of Professor Marian Konieczny. He received a scholarship from the Academy of Fine Arts
in Nuremberg, where he worked under the direction of the famous Tim Scott. Laureate and winner of the Grand Prix of the 10th Triennial of Polish Contemporary Drawing. Scholarship holder of the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Poland. Winner of many awards and honors for artistic work. Currently Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. Dobieslaw Gala's works have been presented in more than 90 exhibitions at home and abroad. In 2023 he was awarded the medal "Meritorious to Culture Gloria Artis", in 2024 he received the Eagles Wprost award in the Art category.
His work is considered a new opening in Polish art. Characteristic of the artist's work is the creation of hybrids of drawing, sculpture and painting. Starting from the flat surface of a sheet of paper or a sub-painting, the artist uses procedures that deviate from classical drawing or painting. Through surgical incision, layering of structures, using, paints, resins and pigments, the artist creates objects of rich
and extraordinary depth. Thanks to the unlimited imagination of the artist, but also of the viewer of the work, the fascination with physical phenomena turns in Gala's work into an artistic journey full of surprises.
